I have faced a strange problem when trying to install Adobe Flash Player for Mozilla Firefox (version 56) using the online installer. When you visit the official Adobe Flash download page, the Adobe server automatically identifies your browser and OS version, and its bitness. In my case, it correctly identified that I was using Windows 10 x64 and Firefox browser. So I was suggested Flash Player distribution for my environment.

During the installation of the downloaded Flash Player (flashplayer26_ha_install.exe) installer file, the following error appeared:
Get the latest Flash player’, this is mainly due to a corrupted installation of the Flash Player. Solution to all of the above: get the standalone Flash Player installation file (links are at the top of this page). There are two types: one for Internet Explorer, the other is for Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape. Something seems to have gone wrong Okay. After downloading Flash Player, close all browsers. Having opened Flash Player installation log, Adobe_ADM.log (located in C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempAdobe_ADMLogs), I found some strange errors of connection to Adobe servers and a certificate error.

It felt like the installer could not connect to Adobe servers to get files. In this case, the solution was to download and install the full (offline) version of Flash Player distribution. However, it was very hard to find it on the official website. Having spent a long time searching, I managed to find the page to download offline installers of Adobe Flash for Windows: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html
In my case, for Firefox browser I had to download Flash Player for Firefox – NPAPI (about 20 MB).

Checking for the Flash Killbit in the Registry
Microsoft has an option in the Windows registry that can be set to disallow an Active X control from running. This killbit will sometimes be set by a malware application to cause further problems for the user. This happened just a few days ago on a clients computer. I completed every other procedure for fixing the Flash player and it was installed. However, when the customer went to a flash enabled site they were greeted with a message that Flash needed to be installed even though it already was installed.
Follow these steps to check for this killbit for the Flash player and fix it.
1) Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT (for Windows XP) or Click the Start Orb and type REGEDIT in the search box and open it (For Windows Vista/7)
2) Navigate to the following registry key
*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
*SOFTWARE
*Microsoft
*Internet Explorer
*ActiveX Compatibility
*{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}3) If that particular key does not exist, then the killbit for Flash is not set, however if it contains a DWORD entry for Compatibility Flags and the value is set for anything different than 0x00000000, then the killbit has been set and this is the reason why Flash is not appearing.
4) You can delete the registry entry if the killbit is set, or change the value to 0x00000000
5) Close the Registry Editor and test flash player again.

For Internet Explorer:
*TurnFlash - a utility to turn flash on or off from the system tray
